Daily Inspection and Maintenance Precautions for Gantry Cranes

1. Wheel

Check whether there are fatigue cracks on the tread and wheel axle of the gantry crane. Determine if the wear on the tread and wheel axle exceeds the limit. Identify if rail biting occurs during operation. What are the causes of rail biting.

2. Hook

Check whether the markings and anti-drop devices of the gantry crane hook meet the requirements, and inspect for defects such as cracks or spalling in the hook. Verify whether the wear on the hook section, the increase in opening degree, and torsional deformation exceed the specified limits. Additionally, examine the neck and surface of the hook for fatigue deformation, cracks, and the wear condition of related pins and sleeves.

3. Pulley

Whether the pulley is equipped with a rope retention groove device; whether the pulley groove and rim have cracks, chipped edges, or excessive wear, and whether the crane pulley rotates smoothly.

Mechanical and electrical components should be regularly maintained and repaired, and all such components should undergo periodic inspections to identify defects such as rust, scratches, oil leaks, and the like.

4. Steel wire rope

Check whether the specifications and model of the wire rope match the pulley and drum as per the design requirements. Verify if the wire rope fixing devices, such as pressure plates, rope clamps, and wedge blocks, meet the requirements. Assess whether the wire rope's wear, broken wires, kinks, flattening, bending, broken strands, and corrosion exceed the specified limits.

5. Braking device

The setting of the gantry crane brake, whether the type of the brake meets the design requirements, whether the brake's tie rod and spring have defects such as fatigue deformation or cracks; whether the pin shaft, center shaft, brake wheel, and brake friction plate exceed the wear limit, whether the hydraulic brake leaks oil; and whether the brake clearance adjustment and braking capacity meet the requirements.

6. Drum

Check for fatigue cracks, damage, or other conditions on the drum body and rim; determine if the wear between the rope groove and drum wall exceeds the standard; verify whether the drum rim height matches the number of wire rope layers; and assess whether the performance of the rope guide and rope arrangement device meets the requirements.
