Methods to Determine Whether the Steel Wire Rope of the Gantry Crane Needs Replacement

As a Shandong gantry crane manufacturer,today we will explain the method to determine whether the steel wire rope of the gantry crane needs to be replaced:

Wire rope replacement criteria(any one of the following conditions necessitates replacement)

1.Excessive broken filaments(most common)

Complete strand breakage:Any single strand completely broken→Immediate scrapping.

6×19 steel wire rope:Replace if≥12 broken wires within one lay;6×37:Replace if≥22 broken wires within one lay.

Lay length:the length of one full turn of the same strand of steel wire.

2.Diameter wear and corrosion

The steel wire rope shall be scrapped if its measured diameter is reduced by more than 7%compared to the original diameter;

Severely rusted pits,thinning steel wires,and hardening elasticity should be replaced directly for large-area rust pits.

3.Deformation Damage

Replace if any of the following conditions occur:

Kinking,flattening,cage distortion,core extrusion;

Localized scorching,arc burns,and hard impact dents.

4.Corrosion and Fatigue

The outdoor gantry crane suffers from rain erosion and frequent heavy lifting,resulting in widespread wire rope wear and fatigue.Even without broken wires,replacement is recommended.

Simple Mnemonic

If a whole strand breaks,replace immediately.If broken wires exceed the standard,discontinue use.If diameter reduction exceeds 7%or there are twists,kinks,or bends,replace the rope.If corrosion or pits are present,replace with a new rope.
